Cannot find your area?

You do not have to wait for us. The register we work from is public and you can read it yourself at any time.

  1. Open the published list of licensed contractors.
  2. Find a firm near you, or accept that the nearest is a county or two away, which is normal.
  3. Note the licence number, the type and the expiry date.
  4. Ring them and ask them to confirm the same number before you agree to anything.

That is the whole method. What we add is doing it every day, so an expired licence gets noticed.

What the licence types mean

  • Standard licence. The full one, covering higher risk removal work. This is what you want for most jobs.
  • Maintenance licence. Narrower, covering short duration maintenance work rather than full removal.
  • Scaffolding licence. Covers erecting and dismantling scaffold around licensed asbestos work. It is not a licence to remove anything.

We show the type on every listing, because a firm holding the wrong licence for your job is a problem even though its licence is real. How we handle all of this is on the how we check page.
