This page lists every firm the HSE currently licenses in Norwich and Norfolk for asbestos removal. Norfolk County Council will not take asbestos at any recycling centre. Not on a normal visit, and not on a hazardous-waste day. That includes a cement garage roof.
The council’s own wording is on Norfolk’s asbestos removal and disposal page. They tell you to use a specialist licensed contractor. There is no household wrap-and-drop in this county. If you have already wrapped sheets in the garage, they still cannot go to the tip.
7 of the 7 hold a standard licence, which is the one that covers removal.

How to read the licensed contractor list for Norfolk
- Watch the expiry dates. None of the Norfolk firms hold a licence expiring in the next 6 weeks.
- Watch the type. Every firm on this list holds a standard licence, which is the type that covers removal work.
Ask for the licence number and match it to the table. Because the county will not take the waste, almost every domestic job here includes disposal. Ask where the waste is going, and whether the consignment note is in the price.
There is no household asbestos skip in Norfolk
Other counties on this site will take a few cement sheets from a householder. Norfolk will not. That is the fact that changes the job. Even a small garage roof needs a contractor who can carry hazardous waste, or a licensed firm if the work itself is licensed.
Do not put it in a general skip. Do not leave it at the recycling centre gate. Do not drive it into Suffolk or Cambridgeshire and hope. Those sites check where you live.
Where asbestos turns up in Norfolk houses
Bungalows, garage roofs, farm outbuildings and later infill in Norwich terraces. Agricultural asbestos cement on barns and sheds is a common rural job. That is still hazardous waste. The farmer’s own trailer to the tip is not a legal route here.
Coastal and Broads stock, and 1960s bungalows inland, throw up soffits, flues and old board around boilers. If you rent from a district council or a housing association, start with them.
Not every job needs a licensed firm
Some cement-bonded work is not licensed removal. In Norfolk it still needs someone who can take the waste. A general builder with a van is not that someone unless they are a registered hazardous-waste carrier and the work is actually unlicensed. Ask. If the work is licensed, ring a firm on the table.
How to check an asbestos licence yourself
Ask for the licence number and match it to the table. Search the same HSE register. If the number is missing, or the type is not Standard and the job is licensed removal, stop. Also ask for the waste-carrier number. In this county that question matters more than in a county with a household tip.
What asbestos removal costs in Norfolk
Most domestic jobs in the UK land somewhere between £400 and £3,500. There is no cheap council drop-off to knock off the disposal line. Get more than one quote, in writing, and ask where the waste goes.

Questions about asbestos removal in Norfolk
What about hazardous waste amnesty days?
The county page says they do not accept asbestos at recycling centres even during hazardous waste events. Read that page. Do not take it on the day and argue.
Can I take it to Suffolk?
Do not assume another county’s site will take Norfolk waste. They check. Use a firm from the table, or a carrier who is allowed to take it.
I already wrapped the sheets.
They still cannot go to a Norfolk recycling centre. A contractor will still need to take them as hazardous waste. Do not unwrap them.
Farms, bungalows and the temptation to drive south
Norfolk has a lot of asbestos cement on farm buildings. That is still hazardous waste. A trailer to the recycling centre is not legal here. A skip on a farm track is only legal if the carrier is registered and the waste is described properly. Ask for those numbers before anyone loads it.
Bungalows along the coast and inland throw up garage roofs and old flues. Norwich terraces throw up tiles and textured coating. Those are different quotes. A farm roof is not a bungalow garage. Say which one you have.
People in Thetford and along the Suffolk border look at Suffolk sites. Do not. Sites check residency. If you are a Norfolk resident, use a Norfolk contractor or a carrier who will take it to a facility that will accept it. The county page already tells you to use a specialist licensed contractor. That is this table, or a licensed firm from a neighbouring list who will travel.
Because there is no household drop-off, a written quote that is silent on disposal is not a complete quote. Make them write the destination.
A general skip is not a workaround
Because Norfolk will not take asbestos at any recycling centre, people look for a skip. Asbestos in a general skip is still hazardous waste in the wrong place. The person who produces it is responsible for where it goes. A contractor from the table, or a registered hazardous-waste carrier taking cement-bonded sheets that came off whole, is the legal route. A farm trailer to the tip is not.
Ask for the waste-carrier number as well as the HSE licence number. In this county that question matters, because there is no household drop-off to fall back on.
Getting a quote from a Norfolk contractor
Ring anyone in the table. Those numbers come straight from the HSE register.
If you would rather describe the job and let licensed local firms come back to you, use the form. We pass it on. Say it is Norfolk, so they know there is no tip route.
If the waste is already in the garage, say so. The contractor still has to take it as hazardous waste. Unwrapping it to run it to the tip is how fibres get into the house. Leave it wrapped.
A barn roof and a bungalow garage should not come back as the same price. If they do, ask what they actually priced. Disposal in Norfolk is a real line on the invoice because the county will not take it off you.
Landlords in Norfolk have no household tip to lean on. Budget disposal on every job, even a small garage. Holiday lets and coastal bungalows still produce garage roofs and old flues. A managing agent covering a row of bungalows needs a contractor who can take the waste, not a caretaker with a trailer. Put the number of properties on the form if it is more than one.
A hazardous-waste day at a Norfolk recycling centre is still not an asbestos day. The county page already said so. Do not take wrapped sheets “just in case they have a skip”. They do not.
If you already booked a skip, stop. Asbestos in a general skip is the other way this county gets people into trouble. Cancel it and use the table.
