This page lists every firm the HSE currently licenses in Middlesbrough and Cleveland for asbestos removal. Middlesbrough Council’s household waste page sends residents to the Haverton Hill recycling centre in Billingham. You book. If you turn up without a booking they will not let you in. You wrap the asbestos at home. They will not let you wrap it on site.
Cement products need double-wrapping in 1,000-gauge polythene, sealed with duct tape or parcel tape, not ordinary sticky tape. Loose waste goes in UN-approved sacks, sealed and labelled. Masks, overalls and used wrapping go the same way. Current packing rules sit on Middlesbrough Council’s HWRC page. Stockton also publishes rules for Haverton Hill. Read the page for the council that collects your bins before you book. Hartlepool is a different site with different bags and a charge. Do not mix those rules up.
5 of the 5 hold a standard licence, which is the one that covers removal.

How to read the licensed contractor list for Cleveland
- Watch the expiry dates. None of the Cleveland firms hold a licence expiring in the next 6 weeks.
- Watch the type. Every firm on this list holds a standard licence, which is the type that covers removal work.
Ask for the licence number and match it to the table. A Stockton or Redcar firm on this list may still quote into Middlesbrough. Ask how far.
Wrap it before you leave the house
The HWRC will not hand you a roll of polythene on the pad. If the wrap is wrong they send you away. 1,000-gauge for cement sheets. UN-approved sacks for loose waste. Duct tape or parcel tape. Labelled. That is the job the night before, not at the barrier.
Do not break sheets on site. Do not put it in a general skip. Traders have their own route.
Where asbestos turns up on Teesside
Terraces, later infill, garage roofs, and a lot of old industrial buildings. Insulating board in factories, workshops and converted works is licensed work more often than a garage roof on a Redcar semi. Say which one you have when you ask for quotes. Those are not the same assessment of the job.
Not every job needs a licensed firm
Cement-bonded sheets a householder can wrap and, if the booking is accepted, take to Haverton Hill. Insulating board, lagging, and anything broken is a contractor. If the work is licensed, ring a firm on the table.

Newcastle is the nearest live list: Newcastle. Those firms travel down the A19. Ask how far.
Questions about asbestos removal in Middlesbrough
I turned up without a booking.
They will not let you in. Book first. Wrap at home first.
Can I use Hartlepool’s bags and prices?
No. Hartlepool is a different council, different bags, different charge. Follow Middlesbrough’s page if that is whose bins you have.
Teesside is three waste rules, one HSE tag
Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar and Cleveland all sit under the old Cleveland tag on the HSE list. Their household waste rules are not the same. Haverton Hill is the site Middlesbrough’s page sends you to. Stockton publishes its own booking notes for the same site. Hartlepool is a different site, different bags, a published bag charge. Follow the council that collects your bins.
Industrial board from a workshop on the river is not a garage roof in Linthorpe. The first is usually licensed work. The second might be a wrapped household drop if the booking is accepted. A quote that treats them as the same job is not a quote you can use.
Wrap the night before. 1,000-gauge is thick. Ordinary decorating polythene is not 1,000-gauge. If you are not sure you have the right roll, do not guess at the barrier. A contractor from the table will already have the right wrapping and the right waste route.
Newcastle firms on the Tyne and Wear list quote down the A19. That can be useful when the Cleveland list is short. Ask whether the price holds for a Middlesbrough postcode.
Stockton books the same hill. Hartlepool does not
Haverton Hill sits in Billingham. Middlesbrough’s household waste page sends you there. Stockton publishes its own booking notes for the same site. Hartlepool is a different HWRC, different bags, a published bag charge. Follow the council that collects your bins. Do not mix Hartlepool’s bags into a Middlesbrough booking.
Getting a quote from a Middlesbrough contractor
Ring anyone in the table. Those numbers come straight from the HSE register.
If you would rather describe the job and let licensed local firms come back to you, use the form. We pass it on. Say whether it is a terrace garage or a works building. Those quotes should not look the same.
Book Haverton Hill only after the wrapping is done. 1,000-gauge for cement. UN sacks for loose. Duct tape or parcel tape. Labelled. If you do not have that packaging, you do not have a booking you can use.
Say which council collects your bins: Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar and Cleveland, or Hartlepool. The HSE table is Cleveland. The tip rules are not.
Landlords on Teesside with workshop or converted-works stock should not book Haverton Hill as if it were a garage roof. Industrial board is usually licensed work. Say “works” or “garage” on the form. If you hold property in more than one of Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar, say which council collects the bins. The tip rules follow that, not the HSE tag.
Ordinary decorating polythene is not 1,000-gauge. If the roll does not say 1000 gauge or 250 micron, do not use it at Haverton Hill. Buy the right roll or use a firm from the table who already has it.
A workshop on the river and a garage in Linthorpe should not come back at the same price. If they do, ask what they priced. One is usually licensed work. The other might be a household drop.
Do not mix Hartlepool’s bag charge into a Middlesbrough booking. Different council, different bags, different site.
Book after the wrapping is finished, not before you own the right roll.
Sticky tape is refused. Duct tape or parcel tape. That is on the council page. Do not argue it at the barrier. Read the page that morning.
