This page explains what happens to your information when you use this site. It is written to be read rather than to be legally impressive, so if anything here is unclear, ask and I will make it clearer.

Who is responsible for your data

The Asbestos People is run by Adrian Falder, who is the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law. You can reach me at info@theasbestospeople.co.uk.

What this site collects

  • Nothing at all, if you only read. Browsing the area pages and the guides requires no information from you and none is asked for.
  • What you type into the enquiry form. Typically your name, an email address or phone number, your postcode or town, and a description of the job.
  • Basic technical information that every website receives, such as the pages requested and the type of browser used. This is used to see which pages are read and to keep the site working.

This site does not ask for, and has no use for, your date of birth, your bank details, or any identity documents. Nobody legitimate needs those to quote for asbestos work, and if a company asks you for them before a quote, be careful.

Why the enquiry details are collected, and where they go

The enquiry form exists to do one thing: describe your job once instead of five times. What you submit is passed to HSE licensed contractors covering your area so that they can contact you with a quote.

  • Your details go to licensed contractors covering your area, and nowhere else. They are not sold, rented, or added to a marketing list.
  • The lawful basis is your consent, given when you submit the form knowing what it is for.
  • You can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing me, though I cannot un-send an enquiry that has already gone out.
  • No enquiry is required to use this site. Every contractor’s own phone number is published on the area pages so you can ring them directly and tell me nothing.

How long anything is kept

Enquiry details are kept for twelve months, so that if a dispute arises about who was contacted and when, there is a record. After that they are deleted. Technical logs are kept for a much shorter period.

Cookies and measurement

This site uses cookies that are necessary for it to function, and may use privacy-respecting analytics to count page views. It does not run advertising trackers and it does not build a profile of you across other websites.

The contractor information on this site

The company names, addresses, telephone numbers, licence numbers and expiry dates published on the area pages come from the register of licensed asbestos contractors published by the Health and Safety Executive. That is public information about businesses, published by the regulator, and it is reproduced here without alteration.

If you are a listed contractor and something about your entry is wrong, email me and I will check it against the register and correct it. Where the register itself is wrong, the correction has to come from the HSE, and I will tell you so rather than quietly editing the data.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask me to:

  • Show you what I hold about you, and I will send it within one month.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete what I hold, unless there is a legal reason to keep it.
  • Stop using it for a particular purpose.
  • Send it to you or someone else in a portable form.

All of those are free. Email info@theasbestospeople.co.uk and say what you want.

If you are unhappy

Tell me first and give me a chance to sort it out. If you are still unhappy, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this page

If the way this site handles information changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. It will not change quietly.
